Rodri expressed his deep emotions upon receiving the 2024 Ballon d’Or, marking a significant milestone in his career. The 28-year-old midfielder celebrated an outstanding season, playing a crucial role in Manchester City’s 2023-2024 Premier League victory and Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph.
As he made his way to the stage to accept the award, Chelsea icon Didier Drogba helped him up due to an injury he sustained in September, which unfortunately will keep him out for the rest of the season.
Reflecting on the moment he lifted the Ballon d’Or trophy, Rodri described the night as the highlight of an unforgettable year in his career.
“It was an incredible night for me,” he said. “To reach this point, the most important thing has been focusing on improving with every game. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has acknowledged my efforts in all aspects.
“When I was young, I never dreamed of winning the Ballon d’Or, but in recent years I have given my all at the highest level and achieved so much. This moment is truly emotional, and I am grateful to everyone,” Rodri shared at the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
