Edge-of-the-Night Pursuit: Gakpo Stars in Liverpool’s Nail-Biting Win Over Brighton

The two teams delivered an exhilarating score chase in the second half, racking up a total of five goals.

Coach Arne Slot opted to rest half of his regular starters for the League Cup trip to Brighton. From the opening minutes, both teams played with intensity, creating numerous chances, though the first half ended scoreless.

In the first minute of the second half, Gakpo broke the deadlock, putting Liverpool ahead with a precise shot from the edge of the box. Brighton nearly equalized moments later, but Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Jaros, pulled off a brilliant save.

The visitors extended their lead in the 63rd minute, and Gakpo followed up with another crucial goal. Brighton continued to press, finding an equalizer in the 81st minute with Adingra’s goal.

However, Liverpool quickly restored their two-goal lead just four minutes later through a powerful strike by Diaz. Brighton fought back as Lamptey scored in the 90th minute, but the limited extra time wasn’t enough for the home side to find another equalizer.
