Liverpool star Cody Gakpo spends his time off before pre-season giving out food to children in Togo, his father’s homeland – the forward is reportedly planning to establish a charitable project in the African country

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo was recently filmed handing out meals to children while visiting Togo, his father’s home country.

In a TikTok video, the 24-year-old forward is seen serving bowlfuls of food to a group of young children, just days after competing with the Netherlands in the Nations League, where his team secured fourth place after a 3-2 loss to Italy in the third-place play-off.

According to ESPN, Gakpo chose to visit Togo to give back to the community and is reportedly exploring the idea of launching a charitable initiative in the country.

Gakpo holds strong connections to his Togolese roots and has family members residing in the West African nation.

However, when Togo’s football association approached him four years ago to consider representing them at the international level, Gakpo, who had been part of the Dutch national system since the U18 level, remained committed to the Netherlands.

Since 2022, he has been a valuable player for the Dutch squad, and his three goals in the group stages of the Qatar World Cup played a significant role in securing his move to the Premier League.

Gakpo has about two weeks left of his off-season break before returning to Liverpool for pre-season training, marking the start of the Reds’ 2023-24 campaign.
