Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was seen celebrating in front of former Everton star after scoring a 101st-minute winner for Uruguay to defeat Colombia

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was seen celebrating in front of former Everton defender Yerry Mina after Uruguay’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Colombia in a South American World Cup qualifier.

Colombia led 1-0 at halftime, courtesy of a crafty free-kick from Juan Fernando Quintero. However, the tide shifted in Uruguay’s favor when Davinson Sanchez, the former Tottenham defender, scored an own goal, and Rodrigo Aguirre added another to give Uruguay a 2-1 lead before the 60-minute mark.

The real drama unfolded in injury time. Andres Gomez equalized for Colombia in the 96th minute, but Uruguay quickly responded in the 101st minute when Manchester United’s Manuel Ugarte fired home from 15 yards out, securing the dramatic winner.

Ugarte’s goal sparked wild celebrations on the field and in the stands, with Nunez particularly fired up, celebrating in front of Mina. Tensions continued after the final whistle when Nunez appeared to have a heated exchange with his Liverpool teammate Luis Diaz, who had played the entire match for Colombia. However, the two later embraced, putting the disagreement behind them.

Mina, who played for Everton from 2018 to 2023, moved to Fiorentina on a free transfer before joining Cagliari in June.

Nunez played the full 90 minutes for Uruguay, following his strong performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa the previous weekend. Although he has started only four times in the Premier League under manager Arne Slot this season, Nunez has been commended for his determination and resilience.
