‘He’s not even looking at the ball’ – Roy Keane was outraged as Adam Lallana avoided a red card for a reckless tackle on Ryan Gravenberch during Liverpool’s win

Roy Keane was left furious after Adam Lallana avoided a red card during Southampton’s clash with Liverpool.

The Southampton midfielder, 36, caught Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch high on the shin with his studs at St Mary’s Stadium. Referee Sam Barrott issued only a yellow card for the challenge, and VAR chose not to intervene, leaving Lallana on the pitch.

Keane, speaking in the Sky Sports studio, was incensed by the decision. He said, “He’s not in control; he’s not even looking at the ball. I would have been sent off for that, no doubt about it. I would have had no complaints.

Keane suggested Lallana’s reputation and his history as a former Liverpool player may have played a part in the leniency. “They’ve looked at the player and thought he’s not a nasty type, and none of the Liverpool players protested too much because he’s an ex-teammate. He’s gotten away with one there. For me, that’s a red card.”

The former Manchester United star, who holds a joint record for 13 red cards in English football, was adamant the tackle warranted dismissal.

The decision didn’t significantly affect the outcome, as Liverpool emerged victorious. Dominik Szoboszlai capitalized on Southampton’s defensive lapses, helping Liverpool secure the win on the South Coast.
