Defender Virgil van Dijk is reportedly set to make a decision on his Liverpool future, with just one year remaining on his contract.
Liverpool are flying high this season with consecutive favorable results, and this comes from the pillars all showing brilliant performance.
One of them is Virgil van Dijk, the star entering the final 6 months with the Anfield team, and this player’s future is still a topic of interest to The Kops fans. However, everything may be clarified in the near future.
Specifically, according to a report from Anfield Watch, the Dutch centre-back’s representative has informed interested parties that the player will continue to be with the Merseyside team, and a new contract could be announced soon.
While the report did not confirm whether a contract has been signed, it is understood that negotiations have progressed to the point where a new contract is just pending finalisation.
Last month, the former Southampton star confirmed that talks with Liverpool over a new contract were ongoing , and now things appear to be heading towards a positive outcome.
Specifically, Van Dijk said: “I can say that discussions are still ongoing, but I don’t know what will happen. We will wait and see what the future holds.
“At the moment, I am completely focused on Liverpool, on winning the upcoming games, and I am not thinking about anything else. What the future will bring, I cannot know at the moment. I can only say that negotiations have started and we will see.”
Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton in a £75m deal, a record transfer fee for a defender at the time in 2018. The Dutch centre-back has made a total of 287 appearances in all competitions for The Kops, scoring 25 goals and providing 10 assists.
