‘I’m a good player’ – Mo Salah confidently reflects on Liverpool’s opening goal, showcasing his exceptional vision and precision during the match against Man City

Mohamed Salah delivered an outstanding assist to set up Cody Gakpo, who fired Liverpool into the lead during a commanding first-half display against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday evening. Salah sent a precise, low cross from the right wing, perfectly finding Gakpo at the far post.

Gakpo, selected over Darwin Núñez for the match, capitalized on the opportunity by shinning the ball into the net for his sixth goal in seven games. City captain Kyle Walker was caught off guard, unaware of Gakpo’s position.

Reflecting on the goal, Salah explained, “We train well to always be [set up so] if you have the ball, the [player on the] other side has to be at the second post.” He added, “I told Cody before the game, every time I have the ball and there’s a chance for me to play the ball to you, I will play it for sure. I’ve given him a few balls this season, him and Lucho [Luis Diaz] as well. We train that ball in training, and to pull it off in a game is great.”

Salah’s assist not only showcased his incredible vision and precision but also marked a historic milestone—his 100th assist for Liverpool, further cementing his legacy at the club. His performance on Sunday also brought another record: it was the 36th time in his Premier League career he has registered both a goal and an assist in the same match, tying Wayne Rooney as the joint leader in this remarkable statistic.

Under the guidance of Arne Slot, Salah continues to shine in sensational form, reinforcing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats.
