A frustrated Arne Slot voiced his displeasure, declaring he was ‘far from pleased’ as he criticized Liverpool’s performance, even though they achieved a perfect record of six wins from six in the Champions League against Girona

On Tuesday night, a dissatisfied Arne Slot voiced his disappointment, stating he was “far from pleased” with his team’s performance, despite Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Girona, which extended their flawless Champions League record to six wins from six.

A second-half penalty from Mohamed Salah preserved the Reds’ unbeaten streak and secured their spot in the knockout stages.

However, Slot criticized the performance, saying, “When I look at all six games, I’m very pleased with the results overall and happy with our first five performances. But tonight’s display was far from acceptable.”

He detailed his concerns, explaining, “What was I unhappy about? Quite a lot. Playing against a team with such a strong understanding of football and their ability to build from the back, like Real Madrid or Manchester City, requires high intensity to disrupt them. Unfortunately, we were slow to press, allowing them too many opportunities. Honestly, I feel bad for Girona because they deserved more from the match.”

Slot also commended Liverpool’s goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, for his crucial saves, acknowledging that his efforts were key to the win.

“We have an exceptional goalkeeper. Every time we lost the ball, we failed to be aggressive, and Girona had the freedom to move forward and take shots on goal. We had little control over the game. The second half was slightly better, though I’m really trying to find the positives.”
