Mohamed Salah has once again faced criticism from his Muslim followers after continuing his annual tradition of posting a picture in front of a Christmas tree

The Liverpool star, who is a practicing Muslim, captioned the festive image with “#MerryChristmas.” As has become an annual tradition, Salah, his wife Magi, and their daughters Makka and Kayan dressed in matching pajamas, smiling in front of their decorated tree and a gingerbread figure.

While Christmas is not traditionally celebrated by Muslims, some partake in the festive spirit of the season. Nevertheless, the post drew mixed reactions from fans.

Fans criticised the Egypt star on Instagram and X under his post of the photo on his accounts

One Instagram user commented, “You let me down, bro,” while another urged him to “Delete this right now.” A third expressed disappointment, writing, “At this point, I’m just disappointed in you, bro,” and another added, “We Muslim people look up to you, and you do this in return,” accompanied by crying emojis.

Salah has been in scintillating form this season, netting 15 Premier League goals so far

Despite the criticism, many fans came to Salah’s defense. One supporter wrote, “Merry Christmas, Mo. Ignore all these idiots. Hope you and your family have a well-deserved holiday season.” Another added humorously, “In what has become an annual tradition on Christmas Day, I read and enjoy the comments on this post for an hour. Never disappoints.”

Others, however, leapt to the defence of the star, wishing him well over the Christmas period

Salah’s incredible performance on the pitch this season has only added to his global fame. With 15 goals and 11 assists so far, he leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot and became the first player in league history to record 10 goals and 10 assists before Christmas.

However, the backlash overshadowed his footballing achievements, with some followers expressing their outrage. One commenter wrote, “With all the warnings, you still go ahead and post this shameful pose. May Allah guide you to the right path. For now, I shall unfollow you on all platforms and block you. You are disgraceful. I also stop watching Liverpool matches forever.” Another predicted misfortune for Salah, stating, “Mark my words, you won’t score any goals till the end of the season for disrespecting our beloved prophet SAW and the entire Muslim community.”

His photo last year did not include himself and his family, but did show a Christmas tree

Despite the recurring backlash, Salah shows no signs of changing his family’s holiday tradition, continuing to share their festive celebrations each year.
