Mohamed Salah receives backlash from Muslim fans after sharing a recent photo of himself with his wife and children in front of a Christmas tree

Mohamed Salah has once again drawn criticism from some of his Muslim followers after posting a photo with his wife and children in front of a Christmas tree.

The Liverpool forward, who is a devout Muslim, captioned the festive image with “#MerryChristmas.” Continuing what has become an annual tradition, Salah, his wife Magi, and their daughters Makka and Kayan posed in matching pajamas, smiling beside their decorated tree and a gingerbread figure.

Mohamed Salah has once again faced criticism from his Muslim followers after continuing his annual tradition of posting a picture in front of a Christmas tree

Although Christmas is not traditionally observed by Muslims, some choose to embrace the holiday spirit. Even so, Salah’s post sparked a divided response from fans.

Fans criticised the Egypt star on Instagram and X under his post of the photo on his accounts

One Instagram user wrote, “You let me down, bro,” while another demanded, “Delete this right now.” A third shared their disapproval, saying, “At this point, I’m just disappointed in you, bro,” and another remarked, “We Muslim people look up to you, and you do this in return,” accompanied by crying emojis.

On the other hand, many supporters rallied behind Salah. One fan commented, “Merry Christmas, Mo. Ignore all these idiots. Hope you and your family have a well-deserved holiday season.” Another joked, “As part of the annual tradition on Christmas Day, I read the comments on this post for an hour. Never fails to entertain.”

Others, however, leapt to the defence of the star, wishing him well over the Christmas period

Salah’s stellar form on the field has only amplified his global reputation. With 15 goals and 11 assists to his name this season, he leads the Premier League Golden Boot race and became the first player in league history to achieve 10 goals and 10 assists before Christmas.

His Christmas posts have provoked ire from Muslim followers, as seen here back in 2023

However, the backlash over his post overshadowed his football achievements for some. One upset follower commented, “After all the warnings, you still post this shameful image. May Allah guide you to the right path. I will now unfollow you on all platforms and stop watching Liverpool matches forever.” Another ominously predicted, “Mark my words, you won’t score another goal this season for disrespecting our beloved prophet SAW and the Muslim community.”

His photo last year did not include himself and his family, but did show a Christmas tree

Despite the repeated backlash, Salah appears unfazed and continues to share his family’s holiday celebrations, keeping the tradition alive year after year.
